Mulberry Hill Housing Victory
We have been working with Mulberry Hill and other African American descendant communities to support their requests to use their land to build generational wealth and address housing shortages in our County. With our support, on July 1st the County Council voted 7-0 in favor of Mulberry Hill residents’ request to allow 2 dwellings per acre in their neighborhood.
There will be more opportunities for action and solidarity coming up soon. Stay tuned!
Housing Campaign Updates
Here are a couple of updates on our Attainable Housing campaign:
- We are engaged with the progress of the MPDU (Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit) legislation. The working group is close to having a final draft ready to share. We are using our power so that a strong bill can be passed quickly this fall. Stay tuned!
- We are closely monitoring the County’s Comprehensive Zoning process (Plan 2040). We are concerned that the plan is not going to create enough housing to match the need over the next 20 years and will exacerbate the housing affordability crisis, and we’re taking opportunities to weigh in, such as with Mulberry Hill (above).
